While still considered a nascent technology, AI experience and capabilities are becoming foundational to skillsets sought by hiring managers across all industries. Enterprise needs require personnel to responsibly grow their AI use to scale it responsibly without slowing down the business.
And that focus is running straight into a hard reality. The talent needed to govern AI effectively isn’t keeping pace with demand.
For executive and leadership teams, this is becoming one of the defining operational challenges of 2026. You need people who understand models, data, regulation, and risk. You need teams that can move quickly while maintaining control. And in most cases, you don’t have enough of either.

Despite the technical expertise, expectations for AI adoption are rising. Regulatory momentum is accelerating, and the bar for responsible AI is getting higher. The recent White House direction on national AI frameworks reinforces this shift. It signals a move toward more structured governance, clearer accountability, and stronger expectations around transparency and risk management.
That creates dual pressure. Organizations need to move faster on AI adoption, while also demonstrating that they can govern it effectively.
Hiring alone won’t solve that equation.
